Green-Lipped Mussels / Perna canaliculus
Green lipped mussels, or green-shell mussels, are native to New Zealand and renowned for their delicate flavor and large size. Unlike blue mussels, the green mussel’s shell gapes open naturally, which Kiwis call “smiling.” The deep, clean and cool waters of the Marlborough Sounds in Southern New Zealand are home to some of the most sustainable aquaculture operations on the planet, and provide this excellent product at a great price. Green lipped mussels also have natural anti-inflammatory properties. To your health!
These come live in a two pound bag that is full of oxygen so they stay fresh and 'smiling' until you're ready to enjoy :) There is no need to rinse the mussels, just use them straight from the bag. Any juices in the bag are from the mussels and can be used in cooking.
